Retail Interior Design - Phone Surgery, Reading
With a High Street presence still the best way to entice business, create an aspirational atmosphere and effectively persuade people to buy now, The Phone Surgery turned to TPD to create a ‘concept’ phone repair shop in Reading.
The client was very clear in its desire to create a High Street experience where clients would be enticed to spend time in the shop trying out as many new phone accessories as possible whilst their phone was being repaired. The brief also included the challenge of creating a light, bright environment, despite the unit’s position in the centre.
A site visit was our first port of call, especially since the unit was in a shopping centre, which would affect the exterior treatment of the premises. The unit’s previous incarnation as a Vodaphone shop influenced our layout design, while Phone Surgery’s newness on the High Street prompted our retail interior designers to make Readings a ‘concept store’, with the ensuing blueprint ready to roll out across the country
A First Fix Full of Surprises
As our remit included a complete refurbishment of the space - encompassing new electrics, lighting and power/data supply - it was necessary to strip back much of the interior to be able to apply our vision in the store.
TPD supplied and installed display stands, wiring for a ‘people counter’ to track store traffic, new office furniture and chairs, a network-linked public-facing media screens in the window, wiring for an integrated sound system and added acoustic soundproofing. We also installed new exterior signage and a projecting sign in line with the local council’s guidance and covenants for a historic setting, and created a set of communal facilities, including a new cloakroom and a staff break out/kitchen area.
